About Us
We have both been tracing our own family histories for more than 40 years, and have been involved in the family history community at various times on both a paid and volunteer basis.
Martyn Killion was a foundation staff member of the Western Sydney Reading Room at State Records Western Sydney Records Centre and worked at State Records until 2003. He returned to State Archives and Records NSW in 2016 after working in associated fields in the NSW public service in the intervening years. He is a Vice Patron and Fellow of the Society of Australian Genealogists and has served as President (twice), Vice-President, Education Convenor, Honorary Archivist and Honorary Librarian. He has also been President of the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations and NSW representative of the Australasian Association of Genealogists and Record Agents.
Heather Garnsey joined the staff of the Society of Australian Genealogists in 1984 and was its Executive Officer from 1988 until her retirement at the end of February 2020. She has also been President of the NSW & ACT Association of Family History Societies and Vice-President and Secretary of the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations. Heather is an Honorary Member and Fellow of the Society of Australian Genealogists and Associate Fellow of the Society of Genealogists (London). In 2015 she was a joint recipient of the AFFHO Award for Meritorious Service to Family History.
The look-up and retrieval service we provide to researchers for the Sydney Benevolent Asylum Admission & Discharge Registers 1857-1900 is undertaken in a private capacity and has no assocation with our current or former professional lives.
We greatly appreciate the support of The Benevolent Society in allowing us to make its wonderful historical records more accessible to researchers through this free index on our website.
